For today's edition of Sunday with Studio J, I thought I would share Close To My Heart's latest "Love Your Layout" video. Sunday with Studio J: Benefits of Membership

Today I want to share another layout with you from our recent trip to Disneyland, but I also want to tell you about Studio J memberships. I waited a long time to start creating in Studio J, but now that I've started, I'm hooked! Having a Studio J membership brings my cost way down.

Here are the benefits:
  • Get layouts at 50% off retail price - This is a HUGE savings!
  • Receive free JPG files of layouts with each purchased layout-ONLY with a membership
  • Option to purchase JPG files separately
  • Exclusive patterns, kits, and free Memory Protectors
  • Free shipping on one order per month
The JPG files come in both high resolution and thumbnail sizes to print, share, or archive. This is great for  posting on facebook or sending to the grandparents via e-mail.

There are two options for membership - 3 months for $30 and 12 months for $99. The year-long membership is the best value, of course.

If you're ready to dive into digital scrapbooking, I believe Studio J is for you.

The layout above would work equally well with baby pictures or birthday pictures. Here's what I did, if you want to re-create this layout:
1. Select the "Daydream" paper kit
2. Select the "Through the Lens" layout pattern (Members Only)
3. Select Kit Mix 4
4. Change the Long pink/star B&T strip at bottom to Lilac Mist B&T
5. Change the green (Sweet Leaf) card stock paper to Blush
6. Change the Blush scalloped strip & square bracket to Hollyhock
7. Change White Daisy background card stock to Baby Pink
8. Add title using My Stickease alphabet and a text box for the "&"
9. Colorize the buttons and ribbons to Hollyhock and thread to White Daisy
10. Mat all pictures with White Daisy at 1/16"

Sunday with Studio J

I've been on a roll creating layouts in Studio J - Close To My Heart's online digital scrapbooking studio. I'm going to be sharing some of my creations here every Sunday. Since this is the first of my "Sunday with Studio J" posts, today I'm going to show you step-by-step how I created this layout. This is my daughter at cheer camp. Isn't she CUTE?!?!

Step 1 - Upload Photos
The first step when starting out in Studio J is to upload your photos. If you're new to Studio J and you want to find out more about how to get started, check out these helpful tutorials

Step 2 - Choose your paper
The theme at cheer camp was pink zebra print, so of course I chose the NEW Roxie paper kit because it includes pink and zebra print. So perfect. All of the papers in our current Idea Book/Catalog are also available in Studio J.

Step 3 - Choose your pattern
I had 5 pictures that I wanted to include, so I narrowed my choices by selecting the 5-photo layouts option from the drop down menu in the upper right. I chose the Monologue pattern.

Step 4 - Choose a Kit Mix
Studio J automatically gives six options for mixing papers in the layout pattern you have chosen. I usually try to pick one that has the most colors that work for my photos. You can change any of the papers in the layout later. I chose Kit Mix 3.

Step 5 - Personalize and Add Photos
I knew I wanted zebra print, so I simply clicked on the zebra print design under the Paper tab on the left  and dropped that pattern onto the plaid pattern, which changed it to zebra print. I also changed the background card stock color (Colonial White) to the lightly hatched paper. The same works for the photos. Click the "Photos" tab on the left and then just drag and drop the photos to white spaces with a big "X" in the layout. Once the photos are in the layout, select them individually to see options for resizing, repositioning and matting. I matted all of the photos and the journaling box.

Step 6 - Embellishments
Next, I colored the ribbons and buttons. Simply select them and use the pop-up menu for your changes. I also added "My Stickease" images to accent several photos and the journaling box. The title is also created with My Stickease. Again, it's as simple as dragging and dropping the images onto your layout. The My Stickease stickers can be resized as well.

Once again, here's the final product, which only took me about 30-40 minutes. Perfect solution for busy moms!

To order the layouts you create, click the "Buy Project" button at the bottom right and follow the instructions. Your order will arrive as two 12x12 photo prints, ready to be slipped into your scrapbook album page protectors.

There is no charge to you until you place an order. You can login to Studio J  to try it out and play free of charge. If you would like more information or help creating in Studio J, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks and happy creating!

First Day of Kindergarten

It was inevitable. I always knew that someday, my baby was going to become a "big kid" and start Kindergarten. Well, that someday has arrived! Here she is about to start her new adventures.

All dressed up and ready for Kindergarten!

We live close enough to the school that we can walk - yay! My sweet neighbor Cathy was walking with her kids behind us and snapped this cute picture. Thanks Cathy!

Vanessa and Daddy pose for a quick shot before going inside. I was thankful that Paul was able to take some time from work and join us for the first day of school. Vanessa LOVES her Daddy.

Outside her classroom. About to start the fun!

Chick-fil-A provided a "Boo-Hoo, Yahoo!" breakfast for all the Kindergarten parents.

It was a bittersweet day for us. Vanessa has grown into a very happy and independent five-year old and I'm grateful for that. But she will ALWAYS be my baby!

Two GREAT specials this month!

Close To My Heart has two AMAZING specials running right now. You're going to love this!

In celebration of our newly updated Stamp of the Month program, we're throwing in a little something extra: a FREE bonus stamp set! In August, when you place an order of $50 and purchase the August Stamp of the Month set, "Wicked", for just $5, you’ll receive the My Acrylix "A Typeface" stamp set FREE (a retail value of $6.95). Think of this as two promotions in one—qualify for and purchase the discounted August Stamp of the Month set and we'll throw in a second stamp set FREE! It's Extra! Extra!

BUT, wait! It gets even better!

To celebrate National Stamping Month in September, we are offering our first-ever double stamp set! You can get the exclusive My Acrylix Pair-a-Phrase double stamp set FREE when you place an order of $75 US from August 15 through September 30, 2011. You'll love this double set—two D-size sets in one envelope—which includes lots of clever phrases and coordinating images you'll use in your handmade cards all year long. The double set has a retail value of $35.90, which drastically increases the value of your qualifying purchase! The best part is that you can qualify for BOTH specials from now until August 31st with a minimum order of $75 and purchasing the August Stamp of the Month for $5.

In my opinion, the BEST way to qualify for all of these promotions, is to order the brand new exclusive Close To My Heart/Cricut Art Philosophy Collection. 2011 Close To My Heart Convention - Disneyland!

I am SOOO excited! Today I'm traveling to Anaheim, CA - for the 2011 Close To My Heart Convention. This is my second convention and I'm very happy to be able to attend again. Convention is always a blast - catching up with my CTMH consultant friends, meeting new friends, finding out all the scoop about the latest CTMH products and promotions.

And the artwork - OH, the ARTWORK! There's a whole room with artwork from corporate on display, another "Wall" with artwork contributed by consultants, super cool artwork during the consultant-taught "Extravaganza" sessions, artwork in the Operation Smile silent Auction, artwork in the creative sessions, which are all hands-on. It's wonderful. I love it.

Last year's opening session was a HOOT! The CTMH staff entertained AND informed us. I had a ball. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us this year.

To top it off, my family is joining me at the end of Convention for some Disneyland theme park fun. My daughter practically lives Disney Princess all the time, so it will be UH-mazing. And since we missed watching fireworks here at home the other night, I plan to get my fill of fireworks at Disneyland.

Can't wait to get started!!

Big Star Birthday

Just a few more birthday cards - all from the same layout and design. The big star on these cards is a huge stamp from the Shining Star stamp set, and it makes such a great focal point for these cards.

This stamp set is so versatile because stars can work for anyone - male or female, and for so many occasions.

I dressed these up with some self-adhesive rhinestones (called Sparkles). I made matching cards here in different colors because two of my nieces - they are sisters - have the exact same birthday. They were born 2 years apart, and one likes pink and the other likes purple.

Royal Birthday Card

One of my all time favorite stamp sets - Royal Birth - is featured in this birthday card. I like the black/white/red combination, makes a statement!

My Dad - The Farmer

So, a while back, in one of my early blog posts, I wrote about my Mom. Today's post is about my Dad.

I was up in Kansas with Paul and Vanessa a few weeks ago visiting family. We had a big family reunion and also spent some time just hanging out on the farm. I snapped a couple of pictures of my Dad. I don't know what he would think of me posting these on here - but I'm 99% sure he'll never see this post. He just never uses the computer or the internet. He's old school like that.

We were all just standing around in the yard, waiting for my brother to finish getting the horse out so Vanessa could pet the horse. We live in the city, so that's a big deal for her. Dad got tired of standing so he sat on a 5-gallon bucket that just happened to be there by the fence. He's smiling in this picture, a RARE thing. He never smiles for the camera. This is my Dad... cap on his head, western shirt (with SNAPS, not buttons), jeans & boots. It's pretty much a uniform for him!

In this next picture, he's got his thinking face on. Pretty hilarious if you ask me.
Just a farmer, sittin' on a bucket, thinkin'.

Seriously, I love my Dad. He's worked very hard all his life and been through plenty of hardship along the way. He's happiest when he is in the combine cutting wheat during harvest, can carry on a conversation with a complete stranger, loving in his own way, and a great grandpa!

Happy Belated Father's Day

Yes, we're WAAY past Father's Day, but I wanted to share anyway. This one was for Paul. He really liked it. I just snuck it away from his office today so that I could snap a picture (gotta remember to put that back).  I had this card all put together and finished but kept thinking something was missing. So, I ripped it apart and stamped the script background image from Air Mail - a stamp set I've had FOREVER. You just never know what path your creativity is going to take you down. The manly diamond paper is from last year's Felicity kit.

I love the bracket image from the You & Me stamp set that was part of last month's special. I think I'll be using that a lot. I also get really excited when I get to use my CTMH 1 1/4" circle punch!

Stamps: Just Like You, Salutation Seals, Air Mail, You & Me
Paper: Felicity Kit, Colonial White cardstock, Chocolate cardstock, Bamboo cardstock
Inks: Chocolate, Twilight, Desert Sand
Embellishments: Twill Ribbon
Tools: 1 1/4" circle punch, ticket corner punch

Be Mine, Valentine!

I participated in a Valentine's card swap with some local friends and this was my contribution. The hearts are from the stamp set A Love, which is only $7.95! All of our A-sized stamp sets are priced at $7.95, a great entry-level price for stamp sets. I can tell you personally that all of these stamp sets are very versatile.

The hearts were stamped on Colonial White cardstock and then cut out with our Micro-Tip Scissors. This is the best scissors I have ever owned! I've had mine since before I became a consultant and I use it every time I am making cards or scrapbooking. I always recommend this to my new customers - it's a must have. The tiny sharp tip of the scissors makes quick and easy work of cutting out even the most delicate detail, and the safety cover protects the scissors and you!

Stamps: A Love, On The Edge, Say It In Style
Paper: Cherry-O, Twitterpated, Colonial White cardstock, Chocolate cardstock

Inks: Chocolate, Tulip, Blush
Embellishments: Colonial White ric-rac ribbon, other ribbon

Heart 2 Heart Challenge - Re-tweet!

I love these little birds from the Felicity stamp set. This is a re-tweet (ha!) post. I've posted this card before - back in July, right after the AWESOME Close To My Heart Convention. It was my swap card for all my CTMH Consultant gals who Twitter, so we had a bird theme. Convention was sooo much fun. I plan to go again - and this year convention is at the Disneyland Hotel!!! I can't wait! Yay!
