2011 Close To My Heart Convention - Disneyland!

I am SOOO excited! Today I'm traveling to Anaheim, CA - for the 2011 Close To My Heart Convention. This is my second convention and I'm very happy to be able to attend again. Convention is always a blast - catching up with my CTMH consultant friends, meeting new friends, finding out all the scoop about the latest CTMH products and promotions.

And the artwork - OH, the ARTWORK! There's a whole room with artwork from corporate on display, another "Wall" with artwork contributed by consultants, super cool artwork during the consultant-taught "Extravaganza" sessions, artwork in the Operation Smile silent Auction, artwork in the creative sessions, which are all hands-on. It's wonderful. I love it.

Last year's opening session was a HOOT! The CTMH staff entertained AND informed us. I had a ball. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us this year.

To top it off, my family is joining me at the end of Convention for some Disneyland theme park fun. My daughter practically lives Disney Princess all the time, so it will be UH-mazing. And since we missed watching fireworks here at home the other night, I plan to get my fill of fireworks at Disneyland.

Can't wait to get started!!

Big Star Birthday

Just a few more birthday cards - all from the same layout and design. The big star on these cards is a huge stamp from the Shining Star stamp set, and it makes such a great focal point for these cards.

This stamp set is so versatile because stars can work for anyone - male or female, and for so many occasions.

I dressed these up with some self-adhesive rhinestones (called Sparkles). I made matching cards here in different colors because two of my nieces - they are sisters - have the exact same birthday. They were born 2 years apart, and one likes pink and the other likes purple.

Royal Birthday Card

One of my all time favorite stamp sets - Royal Birth - is featured in this birthday card. I like the black/white/red combination, makes a statement!

My Dad - The Farmer

So, a while back, in one of my early blog posts, I wrote about my Mom. Today's post is about my Dad.

I was up in Kansas with Paul and Vanessa a few weeks ago visiting family. We had a big family reunion and also spent some time just hanging out on the farm. I snapped a couple of pictures of my Dad. I don't know what he would think of me posting these on here - but I'm 99% sure he'll never see this post. He just never uses the computer or the internet. He's old school like that.

We were all just standing around in the yard, waiting for my brother to finish getting the horse out so Vanessa could pet the horse. We live in the city, so that's a big deal for her. Dad got tired of standing so he sat on a 5-gallon bucket that just happened to be there by the fence. He's smiling in this picture, a RARE thing. He never smiles for the camera. This is my Dad... cap on his head, western shirt (with SNAPS, not buttons), jeans & boots. It's pretty much a uniform for him!

In this next picture, he's got his thinking face on. Pretty hilarious if you ask me.
Just a farmer, sittin' on a bucket, thinkin'.

Seriously, I love my Dad. He's worked very hard all his life and been through plenty of hardship along the way. He's happiest when he is in the combine cutting wheat during harvest, can carry on a conversation with a complete stranger, loving in his own way, and a great grandpa!

Happy Belated Father's Day

Yes, we're WAAY past Father's Day, but I wanted to share anyway. This one was for Paul. He really liked it. I just snuck it away from his office today so that I could snap a picture (gotta remember to put that back).  I had this card all put together and finished but kept thinking something was missing. So, I ripped it apart and stamped the script background image from Air Mail - a stamp set I've had FOREVER. You just never know what path your creativity is going to take you down. The manly diamond paper is from last year's Felicity kit.

I love the bracket image from the You & Me stamp set that was part of last month's special. I think I'll be using that a lot. I also get really excited when I get to use my CTMH 1 1/4" circle punch!

Stamps: Just Like You, Salutation Seals, Air Mail, You & Me
Paper: Felicity Kit, Colonial White cardstock, Chocolate cardstock, Bamboo cardstock
Inks: Chocolate, Twilight, Desert Sand
Embellishments: Twill Ribbon
Tools: 1 1/4" circle punch, ticket corner punch
